[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] Interest in Kim Ju-ae, the second daughter of Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of North Korea, is heating up. Not only did she rank first worldwide among North Korea-related search terms on Google, but foreign media are also paying attention to Kim Ju-ae while examining whether she is a successor.
According to Google search trend data on the 28th, from the 19th when the General Secretary's daughter was first revealed until that day, the number one worldwide search term related to 'north korea' was 'kim jong un daughter.'
The second place was also 'north korea kim jong un daughter,' showing the same content, while third to fifth places were occupied by topics related to North Korea and the 2022 Qatar World Cup. This seems to reflect public interest following remarks by Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), on the 20th, stating, "Any country can host the World Cup, and the same applies if North Korea wants to."
During the same period, among related topics viewed by users who searched for 'North Korea' on Google, searches related to 'daughter' were the most frequent. The second to fourth places were topics related to Infantino's FIFA president remarks.
Major foreign media are also showing great interest in the girl's official public appearance.
AP, AFP, Reuters, and the UK's Sky News all reported on the 27th the news of Kim Ju-ae and the developers of the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) 'Hwasong-17' taking commemorative photos, as covered by North Korean state media such as the Korean Central News Agency and Korean Central Television.
In particular, numerous articles citing expert analyses have been published regarding whether Kim Ju-ae will become North Korea's next successor. However, since Kim Jong Un, born in 1984 and not yet forty, is highly unlikely to appoint a successor early, the general assessment is that Kim Ju-ae appeared as a member of the 'Baekdu bloodline' and as a symbol of the future generation.
