[Asia Economy Reporters Bomryeong Geum, Hyunji Kwon] As the Democratic Party of Korea reiterated its demand for the dismissal of Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min in connection with the 'Itaewon tragedy,' the People Power Party opened the possibility of not participating in the parliamentary audit agreed upon by both parties, stating that there is no reason for a state audit.

On the 28th, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at an emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly, "The reason for conducting a state audit is to clearly uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable," adding, "If you demand the dismissal of Minister Lee in advance, it means making such a demand before the conclusion of the state audit, so there is no reason to conduct the state audit." Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party, demanded President Yoon Seok-yeol to dismiss Minister Lee by that day. It is known that if this demand is not met, they are considering a motion of dismissal or even impeachment.

Floor leader Joo pointed out, "The 2nd is the legal deadline for the passage of next year's budget as stipulated by the Constitution and the National Assembly Act," and added, "There are still significant differences in opinions and preparations are not complete to pass the budget within this time, so it seems like they are creating another political conflict and making unreasonable demands."

He continued, "Democracy is said to be maintained through restraint and tolerance," and said, "I request respect for the spirit of agreement to conduct the state audit after the budget is passed, hold those responsible accountable based on the results of the audit, and establish measures to prevent recurrence."
