Lotte Homeshopping Shares 'Love Kimchi Making' with Underprivileged in Yeongdeungpo-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 28th that it held a 'Sharing Love Kimchi Making' event to deliver kimchi to 200 underprivileged households in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

The event was held as part of 'Hope Suragan,' a social contribution activity in Yeongdeungpo, where Lotte Homeshopping's headquarters is located. Hope Suragan is a sharing activity that regularly prepares side dishes and delivers them to underprivileged groups. Since 2016, it has continued the annual 'Sharing Love Kimchi Making' event by making and delivering kimchi.

The event, held at Hope Suragan in the annex of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, was attended by officials from Lotte Homeshopping and the Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council. They delivered 600 portions of kimchi to 200 underprivileged households in Yeongdeungpo-gu, including elderly living alone. The company explained that due to the recent resurgence of COVID-19, finished kimchi products were delivered to prevent infection.

Meanwhile, since 2015, Lotte Homeshopping has been preparing and delivering side dishes monthly to underprivileged groups in the region through the dedicated cooking facility Hope Suragan within Yeongdeungpo-gu Office. During holidays such as Seol and Chuseok, they deliver festive foods; in summer, health foods; and in winter, kimchi. To date, they have delivered a total of over 55,000 side dishes. In September, to support underprivileged groups affected by heavy rains, they donated 80 million won to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council and delivered 'Charyesang packages' consisting of galbitang and japchae to 300 flood victims. Earlier in May, they continued customized support activities for underprivileged groups by photographing and gifting portraits to 30 elderly living alone who could not afford commemorative photos due to economic difficulties.

Lee Dong-gyu, Head of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) at Lotte Homeshopping, said, "We delivered kimchi to support the warm winter of local seniors this winter," adding, "We plan to continue various sharing activities to help the local community."
