[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo urgently instructed thorough prior preparations as heavy rain and severe cold are forecasted in various regions this week.

According to a press release from the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Prime Minister Han asked the organizations hosting the outdoor cheering event for the second group stage match against Ghana in the 2022 Qatar World Cup at 10 p.m. that day to "thoroughly prepare in advance for rain and cold weather."

In this regard, he also instructed local government heads, the National Police Agency chief, and the National Fire Agency chief to pre-inspect crowd control measures in preparation for rain.

Prime Minister Han further urged the Minister of the Interior and Safety and local government heads to "maintain drainage systems by removing fallen leaves and other debris, and pre-inspect vulnerable areas such as low-lying houses and underground parking lots to thoroughly prepare against flooding and other damages."

He instructed the Ministers of the Interior and Safety, Health and Welfare, and Land, Infrastructure and Transport to "maintain related facilities such as cold-weather shelters and windbreak facilities in preparation for the cold wave, and prepare for water meter freezing in the metropolitan area."

Regarding the cold wave, he emphasized inspecting the living conditions of vulnerable groups such as homeless people, elderly living alone, and residents of jjokbangchon (small rooms villages), and pre-inspecting habitual freezing areas such as roads, bridges, and tunnels.

He also instructed to provide timely and repeated guidance on weather conditions and countermeasures through disaster text messages and disaster broadcasts to enable prior preparation.
