LG Electronics recently held the "LG Hacking Contest 2022" at the Seocho R&D Campus in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity, enhance the capabilities of software developers, and discover outstanding talent.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] LG Electronics held its first in-house mock hacking competition.
On the 28th, LG Electronics held the finals of the 'LG Hacking Competition 2022' at the Seocho R&D Campus located in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, and announced the winning teams in the fields of embedded system hacking (systems additionally installed in products or solutions to perform specific tasks) and web hacking, respectively. About 150 employees participated, and 13 teams (2-3 members per team) who passed the online preliminaries competed fiercely in the finals.
LG Electronics organized this competition to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity, improve the capabilities of software (SW) developers, and discover outstanding talent. The competition format involves identifying security vulnerabilities in a specific system, exploiting them to gain privileges, and then finding answers to given problems within the system. The team that solves the most problems within the limited time wins. Since each problem assumes a specific scenario, participants can accumulate knowledge and experience about new system environments each time.
LG Electronics expects participants to build ways to protect products, services, and internal systems more safely from cyberattacks in their work based on what they learn and experience through the hacking competition. Through this, the company aims to further strengthen global competitiveness across all areas including home appliances, TV, automotive components, B2B, and new businesses, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the products and services experienced by customers.
Um Wi-sang, head of LG Electronics' Software Engineering Lab, said, “Through this hacking competition, we felt the passionate enthusiasm of employees for security,” and added, “We will continuously discover and nurture software developers with outstanding capabilities to secure world-class cybersecurity competitiveness.”
