[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Starting Monday the 28th, heavy rain and strong winds are expected nationwide, mainly in the central region. Following this, a cold wave comparable to a cold wave warning is forecasted.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 27th, the lowest temperature in Seoul was -1.1°C, marking the first subzero temperature this fall. In Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon (Kimhwa), the lowest temperature dropped to -8.5°C, and in Paju, Gyeonggi, it fell to -4.9°C.
From the 28th, relatively warm and humid air will descend at an altitude of 3 km, followed by cold air descending behind it, developing a low-pressure system that will bring heavy and intense rain nationwide.
The rain will begin in Jeju in the early morning of the 28th, expand to the central region, Honam, and western Gyeongsang by morning, and then spread nationwide by evening.
This rain is expected to continue until the morning of the 29th, with precipitation amounts of 20-80 mm in the metropolitan area, western Gangwon, Chungcheong, eastern Jeonnam southern coast, southern Gyeongnam southern coast, Jeju, near Jirisan, and the five western islands; and 10-50 mm in eastern Gangwon and other southern regions. In the Jeju mountain area, rainfall may exceed 120 mm.
In particular, precipitation is expected to be concentrated in the central region. The Korea Meteorological Administration warned that this amount of rain for late November could be record-breaking.
After the rain stops, a cold continental high-pressure system will expand, causing temperatures to gradually drop from the afternoon of the 29th, followed immediately by severe cold.
On the morning of the 29th, most areas will have temperatures above 10°C, but by the morning of the 30th, temperatures in the western part of the central region will drop to -5°C, and some southern regions will also record subzero temperatures.
On the 1st of next month, morning temperatures in the northern part of the central region are expected to fall to as low as -10°C.
