[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla who acquired Twitter, has attracted attention by seemingly hinting at the possibility of producing an independent smartphone, according to the British daily The Telegraph on the 26th (local time).

On that day, Musk posted on Twitter, "If there is no other option, I will make an alternative smartphone."

This was a response to a previous post by Liz Wheeler, a conservative American influencer, who said, "If Apple and Google remove Twitter from their app stores, Musk will have to create his own smartphone," adding, "Then half of this country will willingly abandon their biased iPhones and Android phones."

Wheeler also said, "This man built rockets to go to Mars, so making a small and ridiculous smartphone should be easy."

Regarding the prospect of being removed, Musk replied, "I hope that doesn't happen," but did not rule out the possibility of making a smartphone.

According to CNBC, Musk recently posted on Twitter, stating, "Due to the monopoly of iOS and Android, app store fees are set too high," directly criticizing it as "like a 30% tax hidden on the internet."

Meanwhile, since Musk's acquisition, Twitter has seen a significant departure of advertisers and a sharp drop in stock prices due to mass layoffs and a sudden shift in internal content management guidelines.
