'Gyeongbuk Apples Are Back' Gyeongbuk Province Holds On-Site Apple Promotion Event After 3 Years After three years, the Gyeongbuk apple promotion event, which directly reached out to consumers, was held at the west plaza of Daegu Stadium.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Gyeongbuk Province held the ‘2022 Gyeongbuk Apple Promotion Event’ from the 25th to the 27th at the west square of Daegu Stadium to promote the excellence of local apples and allow consumers to purchase them at affordable prices.

Previously, the event was held every November, the peak apple harvest season, in major cities such as Seoul, but for the past two years, due to COVID-19, on-site sales were impossible, so the event was held online.

This year marks the 17th event, held under the theme ‘GYEONGBUK APPLE’S BACK,’ visiting Daegu citizens, hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and the Apple Producing Cities and Counties Council (15 cities and counties), and organized by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Apple Agricultural Cooperative.

The event ran for three days from the opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 25th until the 27th.

Visitors to the site were able to directly taste and purchase apples produced in the 15 major apple-producing cities and counties (Pohang, Gyeongju, Gimcheon, Andong, Yeongju, Yeongcheon, Sangju, Mungyeong, Gunwi, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Yeongdeok, Yecheon, Bonghwa) at discounted prices.

During the event, the ‘Gyeongbuk Apple Premium Hall’ was operated, where various apple varieties directly produced by farmers and message apples with text were displayed at a glance.

Additionally, various experiential and side events such as apple dart games, SNS campaigns to eat Gyeongbuk apples, face painting, and busking performances were prepared to provide entertainment for visitors.

For those unable to visit the venue in person, online sales were conducted from the 21st to the 27th through the Gyeongbuk Hometown Market Saiseo and Naver Smart Store.

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “With the easing of COVID-19 prevention measures, the apple promotion event has returned to meet consumers directly after three years,” adding, “I hope this event becomes an opportunity for farmers and consumers to share the joy of a bountiful harvest.”

Gyeongbuk’s apple production status is 20,955 hectares and 309,000 tons, accounting for 60% of the national production (516,000 tons), making it the largest apple-producing region in the country.
