Hamyang-gun to Publish This Year's Hamyang Guinness Book

Containing 87 Stories of the Region's Best, Only, First, and Special

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, has published the ‘2022 Hamyang Guinness Book,’ which weaves together the region’s history, cultural resources, and the small stories of residents living in the present.

Since last year, Hamyang-gun has held a public contest called ‘Find the Boss of Hamyang’ to discover the best, only, first, and special stories in various fields such as local history, culture, and people. The county also visited local organizations such as the Hamyang Sports Council and Hamyang Cultural Center to collect various materials.

Through this process, the county discovered a total of 112 cases, selected 87 Guinness records after four rounds of review, and completed the booklet through story work including individual interviews and photo collection.

The Hamyang Guinness includes cultural assets that show the spirit of the people and traces of old scholars, such as Sangnim, the oldest artificial forest in Korea; Haksaru, which was the starting point of the Muosa Hwa of the Joseon Dynasty; Namgye Seowon, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site; and Jigok Gaepyeong Hanok Village. It also contains special stories of current residents, such as the best climber of Jirisan, the person with the most certificates, the blood donation king, and the book borrowing king.

County Governor Jin Byeong-yeong said, “By officially recording the historical and cultural resources passed down in our region as well as the small stories of residents, valuable historical materials of Hamyang have been created. I hope this book will serve as a beacon for all those who want to learn about Hamyang-gun and its residents.”

Hamyang-gun posted the document file on the county government website’s news section so that anyone can easily access it, and placed copies of the booklet at the county office, town and township civil service offices, and Hamyang Library.
