[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that it conducted the ‘2022 National Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill’ involving citizen participation, checking the nationwide disaster response system for the first time in three years since COVID-19.
This year’s drill was conducted over 12 days from the 14th to the 25th, combining tabletop exercises and field drills to enhance response capabilities for complex disasters centered on aircraft accidents.
The tabletop exercise was held on the 23rd, assuming an aircraft accident scenario, and proceeded in a problem-solving manner through situation assessment meetings and activation and operation of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
The field drill took place on the 25th at the Sacheon Airport apron, jointly hosted by Sacheon City and Korea Airports Corporation Sacheon Airport, with participation from 11 local agencies, conducted according to the on-site action manual.
Additionally, the field drill, a comprehensive exercise combining aircraft accident recovery and search and suppression suspected of terrorism, focused on the missions and roles of each agency and continued as a large-scale drill resembling an actual situation.
Mayor Park Dong-sik stated, “Through this drill, we will strengthen disaster response capabilities and inter-agency cooperation functions in the event of an aircraft accident, establish a response system that functions in real situations, and do our utmost to protect the lives and property of citizens.”
