Jinju City Council Visits Fossil Cultural Festival Site Discovered in Jiphyeon-myeon The Jinju City Council of Gyeongnam is visiting the Fossil Culture Festival site and receiving explanations.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Planning and Culture Committee of Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that they visited the fossil cultural heritage site discovered in the road expansion construction section of Sindang-ri, Jiphyeon-myeon.

On that day, 15 people attended, including Hwang Jin-seon, Chairperson of the Planning and Culture Committee, committee members, Professor Kim Kyung-soo (Department of Science Education, Jinju National University of Education), and executive officials.

The fossil cultural heritage at this site was first discovered by Professor Kim Kyung-soo on October 17 and includes more than 10 species such as frog, pterosaur, quadrupedal crocodile, and sauropod dinosaur footprints.

Professor Kim said, “This is a place where the world's oldest frog footprints and various types of fossils are densely concentrated, making it a site of high academic research and preservation value. In particular, the footprint fossils are densely concentrated in a narrow area showing great diversity, and it is a region where many very rare frog footprint fossils have been found.”

Chairperson Hwang said, “We appreciate the great efforts made in excavating the fossil cultural heritage and hope that through continuous interest, our city can become a geological landmark.”
