[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, was selected as an excellent local government nationwide in the ‘2022 Regional Food Index Evaluation’ conducted jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation.
The regional food index quantifies data on the activation level of policies related to food production, distribution, and consumption by region, as well as local government efforts and activities.
Through document and on-site evaluations, Jangseong-gun received excellent evaluations in ▲establishing a public food plan promotion system and ▲efforts to expand local food supply in the private sector, and was awarded the ‘President’s Award of Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation’ given to A-grade local governments. This marks the third consecutive year of winning since the index evaluation was first conducted in 2020.
Jangseong-gun, which launched the Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center Foundation, opened the Gwangju area Jangseong Local Food Direct Store this year and continues successful operations. It has recorded remarkable growth, surpassing 3 billion KRW in sales in just over 150 days.
In addition to the Local Food Direct Store, efforts are accelerating to organize a farming group of about 1,200 members to ensure stable food supply to the Jangseong-gun Public Food Service Support Center, scheduled for completion next year.
Kim Hanjong, the mayor of Jangseong-gun, said, “We will establish a virtuous cycle system of local food that provides safe food to consumers while steadily guaranteeing farmers’ income,” and added, “We plan to spare no support to lead first-class agriculture.”
