SKT CEO Yoo Young-sang Requests Support for Busan Expo Bid in Romania

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] Yoo Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, visited Romania to meet with key government officials and requested support for hosting the '2030 Busan World Expo.'

On the 25th (local time), SK Telecom announced on the 27th that CEO Yoo Young-sang met with Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of the Romanian government, Florin Marian Sp?taru, Minister of Economy, and others to discuss ways to attract the Busan World Expo and cooperate in the ICT sector.

CEO Yoo asked Romanian government officials for support in hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo and simultaneously proposed various cooperation plans in areas of high interest to the Romanian government, such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, green energy, and cybersecurity.

At the same meeting, they also discussed proposals for utilizing the metaverse to promote Romania's tourism industry, which has been struggling due to COVID-19, and holding a Demo Day in Korea to foster Romanian startups.

Since 2008, Romania has been the only country in the Asian region to establish a 'strategic partnership' with South Korea and has maintained close cooperation.

CEO Yoo Young-sang stated, "I hope Romania, poised to become a next-generation ICT powerhouse in Europe, will take an interest in and support the Busan World Expo, which will showcase innovative technologies for humanity," adding, "SKT will continue to explore ways to cooperate with Romania, our strategic partner."
