'Greeting is Everything' ... UNIST Introduces First Professional Interviewer Qualification System in Science and Technology Field

Strengthening Procedural Fairness and Promoting Selection of Suitable Talent

Expected to Greatly Aid Employee Competency Evaluation Methods

'Greeting is Everything' ... UNIST Introduces First Professional Interviewer Qualification System in Science and Technology Field Faculty members who participated in the qualification course for recruitment interviewers.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] UNIST (President Yong-Hoon Lee) is set to implement the first-ever professional interviewer qualification system in the field of science and technology. A system to strengthen expertise in talent recruitment is spreading within organizations where "personnel is everything."

UNIST announced on the 27th that, to enhance fairness in recruitment and promote a proper hiring culture, it introduced a professional interviewer qualification course for the first time in the science and technology sector on September 7 and 27.

The qualification course involved managers at the team leader level or higher. Team leaders who complete all the courses and obtain the qualification will participate in both internal and external recruitment interviews.

The course covered the latest trends including the Recruitment Procedure Act, ESG management and recruitment risks, global recruitment cases, as well as competency evaluation theory, Behavioral Event Interview (BEI), practical interview simulations, and a written exam.

Park Joo-hyun, head of UNIST’s HR team who planned the course, said, “This initiative was undertaken to strengthen the fairness of recruitment procedures and select suitable talent, and we plan to apply scientific competency evaluation methods in future interviews. We believe that competency evaluation methods will also be greatly helpful for managers in nurturing their team members, not just in recruitment.”

Jo Ji-yong, president of the Korea Fair Recruitment Certification Institute who participated as an instructor, explained, “By involving highly trained internal interviewers instead of relying on external interviewers as in the past, the validity and reliability of interviews are ultimately improved.”

The professional interviewer qualification system is actively operated by global companies such as Amazon and Google, and is rapidly spreading in South Korea not only among private companies like Hanwha Systems, Kyowon Group, Kia Motors, SK Hynix Youth High Five, Anguk Pharmaceutical, and Korea Land Trust, but also in the public sector including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea Midland Power, Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, Korea Investment Corporation, Yongin City Hall, Wonju City Hall, and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation.
