Yakult Delivery Vehicle Searches for Vulnerable Households in Seongdong-gu Seongdong-gu and HY Seongdong Branch Agreement Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) signed a business agreement on the 25th with hy Seongdong Sales Office (Director Jeong Hyun-seok) to discover vulnerable households in welfare blind spots.


Seongdong-gu is strengthening the discovery of vulnerable households in the area facing social risks such as illness, unemployment, and social isolation due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic by appointing local residents and workers in daily industries as honorary social welfare officers called ‘Juju Salpini’ to reinforce a dense human safety net.


Honorary social welfare officers are an unpaid, honorary human safety net composed of residents who discover and support welfare-vulnerable households. Currently, about 4,642 local residents, including workers in daily industries, members of the local community security council, and welfare community leaders, have been appointed in Seongdong-gu to devote their efforts to discovering neighbors in need.


On the 25th, through the agreement between Seongdong-gu and hy Seongdong Sales Office (formerly Korea Yakult), 120 fresh managers were newly appointed as honorary social welfare officers. Going forward, while performing delivery duties, they will report vulnerable households in difficulty to KakaoTalk’s ‘Seongdong Neighbors Salpimi’ or the local community center, playing a role in linking welfare services to those in need.


Those identified as vulnerable households will receive in-depth welfare counseling from the welfare team at the local community center. After individual welfare counseling, the community center will actively connect the recipients with customized welfare services such as emergency support, basic living security benefits, and Care SOS services.


Through this agreement, Seongdong-gu has been able to build a more dense human safety net through fresh managers who frequently meet neighbors in difficulty in daily life and approach the discovery of vulnerable households in welfare blind spots more actively.


Additionally, in October, the district signed a business agreement with the Seongdong-gu Religious Council (Chairman Ji Hyeong-eun) to support vulnerable groups including at-risk households, utilizing the network of religious institutions to assist those who have difficulty receiving public benefits.


Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Thank you for participating in creating a warm Seongdong where no one is left out despite your busy livelihood work. We look forward to the role of fresh managers who can discover vulnerable households closest to neighbors, and the district will strive to discover and support hidden vulnerable households.”
