[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Two Chinese fishing vessels were caught by the Coast Guard for illegal fishing in our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

On the 26th, the Seogwipo Maritime Police Station in Jeju seized the Chinese Yunling-registered pair trawl fishing vessel A (218 tons) on charges of illegal fishing by falsely notifying entry and exit from Korean waters (violation of the Fisheries Sovereignty Act in Economic Zones).

Vessel A was found to have made false exit notifications once each in January and February during Coast Guard inspections. Earlier, on the 25th, the Coast Guard also caught the Chinese Yunling-registered pair trawl fishing vessel B (214 tons) for illegal fishing inside the Korean fishing agreement line.

The Coast Guard used an unmanned helicopter mounted on ship 5002 to gather evidence of vessel B's illegal fishing and then apprehended it through a special task force.

Chinese fishing vessels intending to fish in the Republic of Korea's Exclusive Economic Zone must notify the Korea Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives through the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs when entering or exiting Korean waters.
