62 Additional Individuals Indicted Excluding Existing Suspects
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] On the 25th, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they have additionally booked one company official who operated an illegal gambling site and 61 habitual gambling customers who frequented the establishment in a commercial building in Magok-dong.
The police added that the scale of illegal gambling identified at this site amounts to approximately 62 billion KRW, with about 2,000 people under investigation, including 14 operators. It is presumed that this group exploited the characteristics of Hold'em pubs. Hold'em pubs are classified as a 'free business category,' allowing anyone to operate them upon registration. The police explained that Mr. A and his group reportedly registered as a 'legal Hold'em pub' in the early 2000s and have been operating it as an illegal gambling site since 2001.
A police official stated, "There are still many people to investigate, and we plan to sequentially transfer the cases to the prosecution."
