[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Actor Oh Young-soo (78), who gained widespread fame through the movie 'Squid Game,' has been brought to trial on charges of sexual assault.

According to the legal community on the 25th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seongnam Branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Song Jeong-eun) indicted Oh without detention on charges of sexual assault the day before.

Oh is accused of inappropriately touching a woman's body around mid-2017. The police received a complaint from the victim in December last year, and after sending the case with a prosecution opinion in February, they conducted supplementary investigations at the request of the prosecution, including witness interviews and reviewing lawyer opinions, ultimately deciding not to prosecute in April. Subsequently, the prosecution reopened the investigation following an objection from the victim's side.

During the prosecution investigation, Oh reportedly denied the charges. He is known to have stated that "he only held hands as a guide while walking around the lakeside, and that it is a one-sided claim by the other party."

Veteran actor Oh rose to global fame by playing Oh Il-nam, who suffers from a brain tumor, in the Netflix original series 'Squid Game,' and won the Best Supporting Actor award in the TV category at the Golden Globe Awards in the United States last January.
