Park Junghwa, Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee, Visits Seoul Transportation Corporation Gunja Vehicle Depot

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Transportation Committee (Chairman Jung-hwa Park, People Power Party, Seongdong 1) visited the Gunja Vehicle Depot of Seoul Metro on the 24th during the 315th regular session to inspect subway safety accident prevention and the status of efficient train management and inspection.

The on-site visit proceeded in the order of inspecting the new subway integrated control center construction site, the smart integrated train inspection control room, and the train inspection depot.

The subway integrated control center currently manages Lines 1 to 4, Lines 5 to 8, and Line 9 separately, but aims to establish a unified integrated control system by 2025 within the Gunja Vehicle Depot to enable rapid response to emergencies and improve subway operation efficiency.

The smart integrated train inspection control room and inspection depot manage 510 train cars and conduct light and medium maintenance to prepare for preventing train accidents.

Chairman Jung-hwa Park and other Transportation Committee members directly observed the progress of the subway integrated control center construction and the train inspection and maintenance sites at the inspection depot, touring the overall Gunja Vehicle Depot.

Through a subsequent Q&A session, the Transportation Committee members discussed the necessity and efficiency of the subway integrated control center, its role as a national security facility, securing parking space, and future operational plans. They also reviewed train inspection and maintenance procedures, train status monitoring systems, and employees' working conditions, urging thorough train inspection and maintenance to ensure passenger safety.

Chairman Jung-hwa Park said, “Through this on-site visit, I was able to directly experience train inspection,” adding, “With the recent resumption of extended subway operation at night, the subway's importance as a transportation means for citizens has increased, and I deeply thank the Seoul Metro employees who work tirelessly day and night to ensure safe operation.”

He also requested, “Since Seoul Metro's use of information and communication technology in train monitoring, inspection, and maintenance is globally excellent, we will consider ways to export this method overseas.”
