[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] On the 24th, when the South Korean national soccer team played its first qualifying match against Uruguay for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the chicken industry greatly benefited from the 'World Cup boom.'

According to the chicken industry on the 25th, bhc Chicken's sales on the previous day increased by 200% compared to the same period last month and by 130% compared to the previous week.

On the same day, sales at Kyochon Chicken franchise stores rose by 110% compared to the previous week (the 17th).

BBQ Chicken's sales for the day before rose 170% compared to the same period last month. The BBQ app experienced a temporary slowdown in system operation as more than twice the expected number of users accessed it. A BBQ representative said, "The app can accommodate 5,000 simultaneous users, but on that day, up to 10,000 users accessed it."

It was reported that in some stores, customers had to wait about 2 to 3 hours to receive their chicken.

As orders flooded in through delivery applications, some apps experienced service disruptions, causing inconvenience to consumers. Baedal Minjok had issues with app service use from 8:40 PM to 9:10 PM the previous day. Some customers experienced longer payment processing times than usual or order failures.

An industry official said, "With the soccer match starting at 10 PM, the number of 'home viewers' enjoying chicken and beer at home increased, leading to a surge in orders," adding, "We plan to focus on World Cup marketing for the remaining matches as well."
