At the appointment certificate ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Jongno-gu that morning, Minister Park emphasized the significance of the external title ambassadors, stating, “This is part of efforts for the Republic of Korea to realize the vision of becoming a global pivotal state contributing to the world’s freedom, peace, and prosperity, and for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contribute with greater expertise in handling major global issues.”

He added, “I ask for your continued active roles and contributions,” and said, “We will spare no support for the ambassadors in carrying out their global duties.”

The external title ambassador system grants ambassadorial external titles to private individuals who possess both expertise and diplomatic capabilities to support the government’s diplomatic activities. The term of office is one year.

Ambassador Shin, a leading scholar representing the domestic physics community and former president of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), will propose professional strategies to address global science and technology diplomacy issues.

Ambassador Son, a former CNN Seoul bureau chief, is expected to provide policy advice based on her experience in public diplomacy and international sensibility.

Ambassador Choi, former president of the International Health and Medical Association, plans to support diplomatic activities in the health security field as the Global Health Security Ambassador, leveraging networks and expertise in infectious disease response.
