Rapid Temperature Drop Expected to Bring Severe Cold Below Freezing Across Most Regions Nationwide

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) stated in its regular forecast briefing on the 24th, "From the 28th to the 29th, the entire country is expected to be cloudy with rain," adding, "Starting from the 30th, a strong continental high pressure system expanding from northeastern China will bring cold air southward from the north, resulting in severe cold weather."

Rain is expected in some areas between the evening of the 25th and the early morning of the 26th. The expected precipitation amounts are around 5mm for the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, and Chungnam region on the 25th, and less than 5mm for Chungbuk and Jeonbuk on the 26th.

Between the weekend of the 26th and 27th, a temporary cold spell will occur due to the influence of a cold high-pressure system. On the 28th and 29th, the country will experience cloudy skies and rain due to a low-pressure system developing between the cold continental high pressure over northeastern China and the warm high pressure over the Sea of Japan.

In particular, some areas are expected to receive heavy and intense rainfall. After the heavy rain passes, starting from the 30th, temperatures will plunge sharply, bringing severe cold below freezing to most regions nationwide. Some areas are expected to issue cold wave warnings.

Temperatures will be about 3 to 8 degrees Celsius lower than the average. The KMA advised, "Cold weather below 5 degrees Celsius will persist even during the day, so the elderly and vulnerable groups should take care of their health." In Seoul, the minimum temperature on the 1st of next month is forecast to be minus 7 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 1 degree Celsius. On the same day, Daejeon is expected to have a minimum temperature of minus 6 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 3 degrees Celsius.
