[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A public opinion poll revealed that the public trusts Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who denies allegations related to his presidential primary campaign funds, more than the prosecution currently investigating the case.

According to a poll released by Media Tomato on the 25th (conducted via wireless ARS from the 21st to the 23rd on 1,073 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, commissioned by News Tomato), when asked whom they trust more between the prosecution’s claim that part of the private development profits from Daejang-dong was used for Lee’s presidential primary campaign funds and Lee’s complete denial of this, 48.3% said they trust Lee more, 39.8% trusted the prosecution more, and 11.8% were unsure.


Examining by generation, except for those aged 60 and above (49.7% trust the prosecution, 37.6% trust Lee Jae-myung), the public trusted Lee more than the prosecution. In particular, among those in their 40s, 62.2% trusted Lee, significantly surpassing the 29.4% who trusted the prosecution.


President Yoon’s approval rating for his administration’s performance was 29.9%, down 0.6 percentage points from last week. In party support, the Democratic Party rose 2.2 percentage points to 51.3%, while the People Power Party fell 4.4 percentage points to 31.7%.

Regarding major current issues, negative public opinion toward the current government prevailed. On President Yoon’s remark that excluding MBC reporters from boarding the presidential plane was “part of constitutional protection against malicious acts trying to sow discord in the alliance relationship through fake news,” 64.6% of respondents disagreed, while 31.6% agreed.

Regarding President Yoon’s suspension of so-called door-stopping?brief Q&A sessions with reporters during his commute?62.0% viewed it as an inappropriate measure, surpassing the 30.6% who considered it appropriate.
