Seoul National University Bundang Hospital Publishes 5th 'Outcome Book' Revealing Medical Service Quality

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Bundang Seoul National University Hospital announced on the 25th that it has released the '2022 Outcome Book,' which allows verification of the quality of medical services.

Bundang Seoul National University Hospital published the Outcome Book in 2018, the first domestic medical institution to include various medical quality indicators such as treatment outcomes by disease. Since then, it has been released annually in an improved form, leading efforts to enhance patients' right to know and improve medical quality.

This Outcome Book contains a total of 353 indicators across 83 fields, organized into four categories: ▲Hospital Key Management Indicators ▲Clinical Indicators ▲Quality Improvement Activities ▲Appropriateness Evaluation. All data underwent secondary verification according to international standards to further enhance the reliability of the information.

In particular, 52 new indicators were added by advancing the recorded indicators. In addition to treatment outcomes for major severe diseases previously included, such as cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and neurological disorders, detailed treatment indicators for salivary gland cancer among head and neck cancers were newly established. Medical quality indicators in areas of high public interest, such as inpatient treatment outcomes for mood disorders, were also disclosed.

Not only in the clinical indicators field but also by quantifying all activities aimed at improving medical quality, including voluntary innovative activities initiated by staff for patient safety, efforts to improve the quality of medical services and patient satisfaction can be confirmed.

Baek Nam-jong, director of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, said, "The Outcome Book of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, first disclosed in the domestic hospital sector in 2018, has led the development of domestic medical quality indicators through qualitative and quantitative growth every year. The publication of the Outcome Book is not merely about disclosing indicator results but will continuously focus on and strive to improve the quality of medical services and ultimately contribute to patients' healthy and happy lives."
