[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] The European Union (EU) has hinted at the possibility of additional sanctions against Russia.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated at a press conference during the 'New European Bauhaus' conference, an EU green development project held in Finland on the 24th (local time), "We are working at full speed to prepare the 9th sanctions package."
She added, "To weaken Russia's war capabilities, we are trying to target places where Russia can be hit."
The EU has announced eight rounds of sanctions since Russia invaded Ukraine at the end of February. The 8th sanctions package included measures such as a price cap on Russian crude oil, strengthened trade sanctions, and additional individuals subject to sanctions.
Regarding Russia's indiscriminate airstrikes on Ukraine that caused a blackout across almost the entire region the previous day, she also criticized it as an "illegal and barbaric attack."
