[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Namgung Hoon, former CEO of Kakao and co-chair of the Emergency Response Committee's Recurrence Prevention Subcommittee, stated ahead of the announcement of measures to prevent Kakao outages from recurring, "It is an embarrassing matter, but it will be helpful to the industry."
On the 24th, Subcommittee Chair Namgung posted on his Facebook, "If Kakao has been a place where we proudly showcased our technology, this time, although it is an embarrassing matter, we are proceeding with the hope that it will help the industry and that such unfortunate incidents will never happen again, not only to us but to the entire industry."
Kakao will hold its developer conference 'If Kakao' online from the 7th to the 9th of next month. On the first day of the event, four keynote speakers will present: Namgung Hoon and Go Woo-chan, co-chairs of Kakao's Emergency Response Committee Recurrence Prevention Subcommittee; Lee Hwak-young, chair of the root cause investigation subcommittee (CEO of Grep); and Lee Chae-young, head of the technology division. They will analyze the causes of service disruptions due to the SK C&C Pangyo data center fire and disclose recurrence prevention measures, including infrastructure investment plans.
Subcommittee Chair Namgung said, "It is rare worldwide for a company of Kakao's scale to disclose such shortcomings, so even mentioning it again is somewhat burdensome. However, since the focus is on pursuing joint growth with the industry, our sincerity will resonate more when we convey this."
He added, "This year's If Kakao will place greater emphasis on the industry's joint growth, serving as an opportunity to reaffirm Kakao's commitment to working with the industry, and we hope that our efforts will contribute practically to the development of South Korea's IT industry."
