Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Jin-young and Lee Seung-gi's Manager's Recorded Conversations Released, Causing Controversy
Claim They Were Gaslighted Over Unpaid Music Revenue Settlements
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi, who has been with Hook Entertainment for 18 years, is embroiled in controversy over a conflict regarding music revenue settlements, as a recording of CEO Kwon Jin-young has been released, anticipating repercussions.
Since his debut in 2004, Lee Seung-gi has released 27 albums with 137 songs, but it is reported that he sent a certified letter demanding settlement to the agency, claiming he has not received a single won from Hook Entertainment for music revenue settlements.
Entertainment media Dispatch reported on the 23rd a transcript of a conversation CEO Kwon had with directors and managers during an emergency meeting held on the 17th. It is said that Lee Seung-gi’s manager recorded the conversation as a way to protect himself. Furthermore, it was claimed that the reason Lee Seung-gi has not received any music revenue settlements over the past 18 years is due to being subjected to 'gaslighting.'
In the transcript, CEO Kwon expressed anger, saying, "They send certified letters as if telling me to 'go to hell'." He also shouted, "I will kill Lee Seung-gi with my name on the line." Additionally, he blamed the accounting staff for the issue regarding the provision of music revenue settlement documents.
It was also reported that Lee Seung-gi recently shaved his head at a temple in Gyeonggi-do while filming the movie 'Daegajok' (The Big Family). It is said he is focusing on returning to the screen after four years since 'Gung-hap' (The Princess and the Matchmaker). Furthermore, according to SBS, Lee Seung-gi plans to appear in season 2 of the variety show 'Master in the House,' which entered a hiatus after September, following season 1 as scheduled. The recording and broadcast dates are yet to be determined.
