Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona)'s World Cup debut goal was once again denied. On the 23rd (Korean time), Poland drew 0-0 with Mexico in the first match of Group C in the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup group stage held at the 974 Stadium in Doha, Qatar. Both teams shared 1 point each, placing them joint second in Group C. Saudi Arabia, who secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Argentina, leads the group with 3 points.

Poland struggled against Mexico's counterattacks in the first half. The repeated lateral switches and quick passes unsettled the midfield, leading to several dangerous situations. The defense was busy clearing the ball, forcing Lewandowski to drop back from the front line to the midfield. Unable to smoothly execute their planned attacks, they failed to create any significant chances.

Although Mexico dominated the game, their passing accuracy was poor, resulting in a failure to score. In the second half, they could not effectively respond to the opponent's changed tactics. With the introduction of Cristian Bielik, the increased pressure exposed defensive weaknesses. Poland seized the opportunity and created a decisive chance. In the 10th minute of the second half, Lewandowski dribbled inside the penalty area looking for a shooting opportunity but drew a foul from H?ctor Moreno. However, the penalty kick was saved by the opposing goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, and the subsequent attack also ended fruitlessly.

Lewandowski has yet to taste a goal in the World Cup. Although he was considered a Golden Ball (top scorer) candidate in the 2018 Russia tournament, he finished the group stage with no goals in three matches. There is still a chance to make up for it. Poland will play their second group stage match against Saudi Arabia on the 26th at Al Rayyan Education City Stadium. Mexico will face Argentina on the 27th at Lusail Stadium.
