Ministry of Foreign Affairs Discusses 'Korean Peninsula Situation' at OSCE Meeting

Consultation on OSCE and Korean Peninsula Situation, Bold Initiative
Confirming the Need for Unified Will and Cooperation in the International Community

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 21st (local time), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 22nd that it jointly held a meeting of the Asia Partnership Cooperation Group (APCG) with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, Austria, under the theme of 'The Situation on the Korean Peninsula,' and discussed the issue of North Korean provocations.

The OSCE is a cooperative organization that discusses security issues among European-Atlantic countries, including political-military, economic-environmental, and human aspects.

Since 1994, South Korea has participated as an Asian Partnership Cooperation Partner country of the OSCE, along with Japan, Australia, Thailand, and Afghanistan.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Ham Sang-wook to Austria, Anna Olsson Bran, Sweden's Ambassador to the OSCE and Chair of the APCG, among others, who delivered welcoming remarks.

The Korean participants emphasized that despite North Korea's unprecedented provocations, the government will steadfastly continue diplomatic efforts to halt North Korean provocations and lead the return to denuclearization talks through the Bold Initiative, the government's roadmap for North Korea policy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that OSCE member countries shared the recognition that the Korean Peninsula and Europe are facing similar challenges such as nuclear threats, confirmed the united will of the international community to deter North Korea's illegal provocations, and acknowledged the necessity of cooperation between South Korea and the OSCE.
