[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Taewon] The participating countries for the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour's international team competition, the 'Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown,' to be held next May at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California, have been decided.
On the 22nd (Korean time), the LPGA Tour announced that based on the weekly world rankings, eight countries?Korea, the United States, Japan, Sweden, Thailand, England, Australia, and China?have qualified to participate.
Korea and the United States ranked the highest, and China secured a spot by surpassing South Africa. A total of 32 players will participate. Each country will select four players based on the world rankings as of April 4 next year.
This tournament, which had not been held since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume next year. Korean company Hanwha has taken on the new title sponsorship. Korea won the 2018 tournament held at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon.
Jeon Inji (28), who participated in the 2018 tournament, expressed her anticipation, saying, "I definitely want to participate again next year. The fact that a Korean company is sponsoring and that we are the defending champions might be an opportunity for the Korean team to perform even better."
The tournament, held over four days, will determine the final four through three days of four-ball matches. On the final day, singles matches and foursomes will be played for the semifinals, finals, and the third-place playoff.
