[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Lithium Plus announced on the 22nd that it has started operating a battery-grade high-purity lithium hydroxide mass production facility at its Chubu Plant in Geumsan-gun, Chungnam. The initial mass-produced quantity will be supplied to secondary battery material companies.
The Chubu Plant has an annual production capacity of 3,600 tons and was built using proprietary refining technology. This is the first large-scale lithium hydroxide production plant in South Korea. After completion and inspection last month, the facility was cleaned and has now begun full-scale operation.
Currently, battery-grade high-purity lithium hydroxide is entirely imported from countries such as China and Chile. With the operation of this facility, it is expected to help alleviate the shortage of lithium hydroxide supply in the domestic secondary battery industry.
A Lithium Plus official stated, "The production facility built with proprietary refining technology has completed all inspections and successfully started operation," emphasizing, "We will contribute to the development of the secondary battery industry through large-scale domestic production of lithium hydroxide, which urgently needs supply chain stabilization."
He added, "Along with the operation of the facility, securing funds for additional investment is also progressing smoothly," and said, "The 100 billion KRW scale fundraising led by Hydro Lithium will also be completed without any issues."
Lithium Plus is expanding its lithium business in cooperation with its subsidiary Hydro Lithium. Hydro Lithium is starting with the purchase of raw materials for lithium hydroxide production and will actively pursue various lithium businesses. Its affiliate Lithium Insight acquired WI and changed its company name to Urban Lithium through an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders held on the 4th.
