[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was selected as an excellent and best institution respectively in the 2022 Medical Aid Project evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Gwangju City, achieving a double crown.
The Medical Aid Project provides medical services such as consultation, treatment, and examination to citizens in difficult living conditions. Currently, there are 13,974 medical aid recipients in Gwangsan-gu.
In this evaluation, which reviews overall performance including medical aid case management, recovery rate of undue benefits, long-term hospitalization management, and appropriateness of medical aid financial management, Gwangsan-gu was recognized for establishing a proper medical aid recipient culture and resolving unnecessary long-term hospitalizations.
Gwangsan-gu was selected as a pilot local government for home-based medical aid projects supporting the stable daily return of patients with long-term hospitalization due to medical necessity, providing various services.
In particular, special policies were promoted such as ▲supporting daily necessities linked to private resources for citizens returning home after discharge ▲providing psychological support services to help overcome ‘Corona Blue’ and anxiety ▲supporting cognitive activities for independent daily recovery including dementia prevention for elderly medical aid recipients.
Through these efforts to systematically manage the medical aid project, including redefining medical care and nursing for socially long-term hospitalized patients, Gwangsan-gu was selected as an excellent institution in the Ministry of Health and Welfare-led evaluation and received the highest ‘best’ rating among five autonomous districts in the Gwangju City-led evaluation.
A Gwangsan-gu official stated on the 21st, “To stabilize medical aid finances, we will continue home visits and counseling for medical aid recipients, ongoing guidance on the medical aid system, and management of long-term hospitalized patients,” adding, “Above all, through meticulous case management, we will create a system that provides services perfectly tailored to those who truly need medical aid.”
