Obtained Certification for Tap Water Production~Supply Process and Maintenance... Established Foundation for Disaster Prevention
Created 'Super Simple Hazard Warning Signs' for Major Disaster Prevention... Installed at 1,500 Hazardous Locations
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority announced on the 21st that it has obtained the ‘Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001)’ certification, the highest level of international standard in the field of safety and health. This initiative was promoted to eliminate hazardous and dangerous factors and strengthen safety management at waterworks sites in relation to the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
ISO 45001 is the highest-level international certification on occupational health and safety established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It undergoes rigorous evaluation on all aspects of safety and health to prevent various types of hazards and industrial accidents in the workplace. This ISO 45001 certification was awarded to the headquarters and 16 business offices of the Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority for ‘administration and maintenance related to the production and supply of tap water.’ The certification is valid for three years from October 14 this year to October 13, 2025, and will be maintained through annual follow-up audits.
Additionally, it was announced that various on-site safety improvement activities are being carried out, including the self-production of four types of ‘ultra-simple hazard warning signs’ to prevent serious accidents in waterworks. Since last October, ‘ultra-simple hazard warning signs’ containing essential behavioral guidelines that workers must follow to prevent serious accidents have been produced and attached to about 1,500 waterworks sites with hazardous factors.
Lee Dae-hyun, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, said, “With the acquisition of this ISO 45001 certification, we expect to establish an autonomous occupational health and safety management system at our workplaces,” and added, “We will strive to prevent serious accidents within the workplace and spread a safety culture through on-site safety improvement activities such as the installation of hazard warning signs.”
