[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Jungkook, a member of the group BTS, took the stage at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Jungkook performed the official World Cup theme song, "Dreamers." This is the first time a K-pop artist has participated in another country's World Cup OST (theme song) and performed at the opening ceremony.

On the 20th (local time), Jungkook appeared on stage with local singer Fahad Al Kubaisi at the opening match celebration between Qatar and Ecuador held at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar.

"Dreamers" is an English song featuring a lively melody, with Jungkook delivering the vocals solo. The hopeful lyrics include lines such as "We are dreamers. We achieve it because we believe it" and "If you want to come, come with me."

The most famous World Cup theme song to date is "The Cup of Life," sung by pop star Ricky Martin at the 1998 France World Cup. Martin won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance, the highest honor in the American music industry, for the album containing this song.

The commemorative performance held before the opening ceremony consisted of seven acts and lasted about 30 minutes. FIFA announced, "The theme of the opening ceremony is a gathering for all humanity that connects differences through humanity, respect, and inclusion."

They also stated, "The performance was led by global talents combining Qatari traditions and world cultures," and "It included tributes to the 32 competing teams, previous World Cup host countries, and volunteers."

Prior to the opening ceremony, on the 19th (local time), Jungkook personally visited the Korean national football team’s training ground at Al Egla in Doha. Jungkook expressed his support, saying, "I hope the players stay injury-free, and not only I but our members and all the people are cheering for you, so I hope you get the results you want. I will work hard on the opening ceremony stage thinking of the players."
