Haenam-gun Installs Ttangkkeut Tower Skywalk 'Walking Above the Sea at Ttangkkeut'

At the Southernmost Tip of the Korean Peninsula, an 18m Sea-Protruding Land's End Tower Symbolizes the Coexistence of Beginning and End

Haenam-gun Installs Ttangkkeut Tower Skywalk 'Walking Above the Sea at Ttangkkeut'

[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has created a skywalk fully open to the Ttangkkeut Sea and sky at Ttangkkeut Tower, the southernmost point of the Korean Peninsula.

Ttangkkeut Tower is a triangular monument standing tall at the southernmost point of the Korean Peninsula at 34 degrees 17 minutes 38 seconds north latitude. Through the Ttangkkeut Old Tourist Site Regeneration Project, the county remodeled the observation deck in front of Ttangkkeut Tower into a skywalk with part of the floor made of glass.

The 9-meter-high, 18-meter-long Ttangkkeut Tower Skywalk was designed with the theme "Taking One Step Beyond Ttangkkeut," using the symbols of Alpha and Omega, which signify the beginning and end of the Korean Peninsula, as the design concept.

When standing on the skywalk, visitors can see Ttangkkeut Tower and a photo zone toward the land side, and enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful Ttangkkeut Sea on the coastal side. Part of the floor is made of transparent tempered glass, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of walking directly above the Ttangkkeut Sea.

This project began design work in 2020, went through several practical meetings, construction method reviews, and expert consultations to design the observation deck, and was started in December 2021. After about a year of construction, it was completed.

Myeong Hyun-gwan, the mayor of Haenam-gun, said, "Ttangkkeut Tower is the southernmost point of our country that visitors to the Ttangkkeut tourist site must see at least once. By creating the skywalk along with Ttangkkeut Tower, we expect it to help enhance the image of the Ttangkkeut tourist site, signaling a new beginning." He added, "Through the Ttangkkeut Old Tourist Site Regeneration Project, better sights and attractions will be provided to tourists, making it another meaningful place."
