[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association announced on the 18th that it held the '55th Regional Channel Excellence Program Awards Ceremony' and announced a total of 10 winners across categories from 114 nominated works.
In the news category, four works were selected: 'Basic Council, Now Must Change' (SK Broadband Dobong Gangbuk Broadcasting), which presented the 30-year history and development direction of grassroots democracy based on local councils; '1+1 Incinerator Opposition, NIMBY or a Reasoned Outcry?' (D'Live Mapo Cable TV), which dealt with the issue of site selection for additional incinerator construction; 'Hundreds of Millions Disappeared, Emerging Allegations of Pyeongtaek Hyanggyo Corruption' (SK Broadband Ginan Broadcasting), which focused on allegations of embezzlement at Pyeongtaek Hyanggyo; and 'A Little Attention to the Rising Homeless' (LG HelloVision Buk Incheon Broadcasting), which highlighted the poor management of homeless people by local governments and urged the expansion of educational facilities for self-reliance.
In the regular category, HCN DocuPlus's 'Record-breaking Heavy Rainfall in 115 Years' (HCN Dongjak Broadcasting), which documented the flood disaster in Seoul and the efforts to help victims and find hope amid the crisis, and 'Rebirth of Space' (SK Broadband Dongnam Broadcasting), which reexamined the coexistence of old and new by blending intellect, culture, arts, region, and space, were selected.
In the special feature category, two works were selected: 'New Concept Neighborhood Broadcasting Project Seongeup News' (KCTV Jeju Broadcasting), which captured a unique entertainment-style neighborhood broadcasting project created by 40 residents of Seongeup Village in Seogwipo City, and 'Hidden Jewel of the Ocean, Mud' (CMB Chungcheong Broadcasting), which reflected on the special significance of 'mud,' a precious local resource and treasure.
Additionally, HCN and JCN Ulsan Central Broadcasting, which served as the neighborhood loudspeaker by delivering 'Special News Coverage on Heavy Rainfall in the Metropolitan Area' and 'News on the National Sports Festival Held After 3 Years,' received special awards.
Lee Rae-woon, chairman of the Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association, said, "I applaud the cable TV reporters and producers who worked tirelessly on the front lines of local residents' lives, keeping the flame of hope alive at flood sites, pointing out the dark sides of the region, and seeking improvement measures," and added, "Please continue to take the lead on local issues, represent residents' voices, and act as mediators in consultations."
