On the 17th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they had arrested A, an employee of the mayor's secretary office, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act the previous day.
Mayor Kim was previously reported for allegedly sending over 200 boxes of apples to district officials and local residents through her personal secretary ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday in January. The secretary reportedly sent a text message along with the gift, stating that "the mayor has put her heartfelt feelings into this."
The police conducted searches and seizures at the mayor's office and secretary office in June and September.
Mayor Kim is said to have denied the allegations, claiming that it was the personal secretary's individual action.
