SK On and SKIET Win 'CES 2023' Best Innovation Award... Achievement in Just 4 Years of Participation

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] SK On and SK IE Technology (hereinafter SKIET) have won the Best of Innovation award at the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition, CES 2023.

The SK Innovation affiliates received a total of eight innovation awards for five products, among which two products recognized for their technological excellence were named Best of Innovation.

On the 17th, SK Innovation announced that products from its subsidiaries SK On and SKIET were selected for the 'CES 2023 Best of Innovation' awards held in early January next year in Las Vegas, USA. This is the first time in four years since SK Group affiliates began participating in CES in 2019 that they have won the Best of Innovation award.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which organizes CES, evaluates entries in advance before the exhibition to select innovation awards. In particular, the Best of Innovation award is given to one product or service that receives the highest evaluation in its category based on technology, design, and innovation. Generally, about 20 Best of Innovation awards and 500 innovation awards are selected.

First, SK On's SF Battery (Super Fast Battery), officially named E556, received the Best of Innovation award in the Embedded Technologies category. This is the first award in the domestic battery industry, signifying global recognition of its technological capability and innovativeness.

The SF Battery is a high-nickel battery with a nickel content of 83%, capable of driving over 400 km on a single charge. It has the fastest charging speed among electric vehicle batteries currently sold in the market. Thanks to SK On's special coating technology, unlike other products that typically take 20 to 30 minutes, it can be rapidly charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes. This battery is currently installed in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, both of which have been selected as 'Car of the Year' at various award ceremonies.

SKIET's Flexible Cover Window (FCW) also received the Best of Innovation award in the Mobile Devices & Accessories category. FCW is a new material that can replace glass used in flexible displays for foldable and rollable electronic devices and automobiles. It consists of a transparent polyimide film and functional hard coating and is used in foldable phones and rollable TV displays.

At CES 2023, SK Innovation achieved the remarkable feat of winning innovation awards in eight categories for five products. SK Innovation affiliates' products that attracted global attention include ▲ Lightweight material UD Tape for vehicles (SK Geocentric) ▲ E556 SF Battery (SK On) ▲ NCM9 Battery (SK On) ▲ FCW (SKIET) ▲ LiBS Separator (SKIET). Notably, NCM9 (awarded at CES 2022) and FCW (awarded at CES 2021) have been recognized twice, reaffirming their excellent technological capabilities.
