[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun announced on the 16th that it received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 18th Korea Local Autonomy Management Competition through its key policy, ‘Haenam-type ESG Ethical Management.’
The Korea Local Autonomy Management Competition is held to select and share innovative excellent policies that improve local administration and residents' quality of life nationwide.
Haenam-gun was selected as an excellent case in the field of innovation in local public institutions by incorporating ESG values into its county administration.
The county declared a vision earlier this year aiming to complete Clean Environment (E) ? Safe Society Together (S) ? Trustworthy Administration (G) in the 8th elected term, discovering policy tasks with added ESG values by department and expanding them throughout the county administration, and is promoting a county-wide citizen participation practice campaign through citizen-participatory practice tasks.
For a Clean Environment (Environment), eco-friendly policies for carbon neutrality are being implemented, such as expanding resident-participatory resource circulation projects to all towns and townships, increasing carbon sinks by planting 600,000 trees, fostering subtropical agriculture to respond to climate change, and promoting eco-friendly tourism policies.
Also, to create a society Together (Social), high evaluations were received for establishing a safety net for vulnerable groups such as activating our neighborhood welfare task force, fostering autonomous activists, and nurturing an educational community centered on the establishment of a 50 billion KRW scholarship fund.
Along with this, the creation of a fair, just, and transparent public service culture and strengthening communication channels, proven by winning the Korea SNS Public Sector Award for four consecutive years, were recognized as realizing trustworthy administration (Governance) based on communication and participation.
Myeong Hyun-gwan, Haenam County Governor, said, “As a core pledge of the 8th elected term, we will promote ESG ethical management throughout all areas of county administration to realize a righteous and competent administration,” and added, “Next year, we will make it a year of Haenam-type ESG growth and establish a sustainable development system led by residents through resident-proposed ESG contest projects.”
