[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The DIT Social Service Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology conducted rural volunteer work over two days, on the 11th and 12th, in Seonri Village located in Wondong-myeon, Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province.
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, which established a sisterhood relationship with Seonri Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam in 2008 under the One School One Village program, promotes various volunteer activities such as helping hands and environmental cleanup every year to support farms experiencing labor shortages during the harvest season and specific periods.
The DIT Social Service Group, consisting of about 60 students and faculty members, assisted with labor shortages in tasks such as apple harvesting and packaging at the village's communal farmland.
Student Han Seung-wan, who participated in the volunteer work, said, "Through this volunteer activity, I realized that there is a truly arduous and difficult process behind a single piece of fruit reaching our table," adding, "It was a rewarding time to be able to help rural residents who have been facing many difficulties due to frequent recent typhoon damages, even if only a little."
Kim Young-do, President of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, "I hope that through social service activities, students will grow not only in specialized skills and knowledge in the relevant fields but also as competent professionals."
The DIT Social Service Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology has been conducting rural volunteer activities every June and November.
