[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 15th that it will accept submissions for a drawing contest for elementary and middle school students in the city from the 21st to the 30th under the theme of ‘Child Abuse Prevention and Improvement of Child Rights.’
This contest was prepared with the support of the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service to enhance learning effects through the participation of local children, who are the subjects of child abuse prevention and child rights, and to promote awareness in the local community.
The artwork categories include all drawing genres without limitation, such as watercolor, croquis, dessin, mosaic, caricature, etc.
Submissions are limited to one work per person, and works must be on 4-cut drawing paper (394*545 mm) along with the required documents, which should be submitted in person to the Resident Life Support Division of City Hall during the submission period.
For online submissions, applicants must first send the required documents and photos of the artwork via email, then mail the artwork to the Child Protection Team of the Resident Life Support Division at City Hall.
The city plans to award 200,000 KRW each to two grand prize winners, 150,000 KRW each to four excellence prize winners, and 100,000 KRW each to six encouragement prize winners through judging next month, and will also present small souvenirs to all participants.
A joint campaign commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Day will be held at three locations, including the KTX Naju Station intersection, at 8 a.m. on the 18th.
The campaign will involve related organizations such as the police station, education support office, child protection specialized agencies, youth training centers, youth counseling and welfare centers, out-of-school youth support centers, the Federation of Local Children’s Centers, and the Federation of Daycare Centers, distributing promotional materials for child abuse prevention and conducting publicity with placards, sashes, and banners.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae of Naju contributed to the promotion of child abuse prevention through a challenge.
Mayor Yoon recently participated in the ‘END Violence’ child violence eradication challenge, hosted by UNICEF and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following a relay nomination from Mayor Hong Tae-yong of Gimhae.
He then nominated Park Yoon-ja, Naju Education Superintendent; Yoo Ki-yong, Director of the Central Region Child Protection Specialized Agency; and Song Si-kyung, Head of the Management Strategy Headquarters of the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service as the next participants.
Mayor Yoon said, “According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children are also individuals who must be respected and have the right to live safely and be protected. We will actively strive for prevention, promotion, and strong measures to eradicate child violence so that precious children are not abused.”
Meanwhile, Naju City, in its first year of certification as a child-friendly city, is promoting various child-friendly policies to identify and reflect the actual needs of children in city administration, such as visiting child rights education for 6th graders in elementary school, middle and high school students, and holding policy proposal meetings with child participation groups.
