"Reviving the National Tourist Destination Yeonggwang" ... Namhaedaegyo Bridge Tourism Resource Development Project Kicks Off A bird's-eye view of the Welcome Center in Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will officially launch the Namhae Bridge Tourism Resource Development Project starting with the groundbreaking of the Welcome Center in November.

The Namhae Bridge Tourism Resource Development Project aims to transform the Namhae Bridge, which opened in 1973, into a "bridge-themed tourist attraction" to revive the glory of Namhae Bridge, which became a nationally renowned tourist destination upon its opening in 1973. In particular, the plan is to place content throughout the Noryang area where visitors can experience the spectacular scenery of the Noryang Sea and the patriotic spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.

The Welcome Center, marking the beginning of the Namhae Bridge Tourism Resource Development Project, will be constructed as a single-story reinforced concrete building with a total floor area of 650㎡ and a building area of 434㎡. The project budget is expected to be 2.5 billion KRW.

Inside and outside, offices, a caf?, and an outdoor rest area will be created, serving as a space to welcome tourists visiting Namhae-gun and a place to view and experience Namhae Bridge.

Despite earlier expectations that construction would be difficult to start within this year due to difficulties in negotiations with the Ministry of Environment and National Park planning changes, Namhae-gun plans to accelerate the project by beginning construction of the Welcome Center, which was included in the original project plan, in November.

In December, construction will begin on the nighttime landscape lighting project, and in the spring of next year, construction of an adventure playground is planned. While continuing negotiations with the Ministry of Environment regarding park plan changes, projects that can be carried out outside the park area will be sequentially initiated.

The commercial area around Namhae Bridge has been in urgent need of revitalization measures as traffic volume sharply declined after the opening of Noryang Bridge.

Accordingly, Namhae-gun is accelerating the concretization of development plans for the area around Namhae Bridge, having secured a project budget of 19 billion KRW through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Coastal and Inland Area Development Project in 2021.

Governor Jang Chung-nam said, “The Namhae Bridge Tourism Resource Development Project will be fully launched with the start of construction of the Welcome Center,” adding, “With the advent of the undersea tunnel era, the second heyday of Namhae tourism will begin again at Namhae Bridge.”
