Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is talking with firefighters during his visit to Suwon Southern Fire Station and Southern 119 Safety Center on the 14th.
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited police stations and fire stations across the province in succession to encourage the staff.
On the 14th, Governor Kim visited the Nambu 119 Safety Center of Suwon Nambu Fire Station and said, "Our citizens truly trust the firefighters and police officers who work hard on the front lines," adding, "Please do not lose heart, work even harder, and also pay attention to managing your physical and mental health."
Governor Kim especially met with Firefighter Song Geun-seok and Firefighter Cheon Min-ha, who belong to Suwon Nambu Fire Station among the 98 paramedics dispatched from the Gyeonggi Fire Disaster Headquarters to the Itaewon-dong site in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, during the '10.29 Tragedy,' and inquired about their health condition.
He then visited the CCTV control room at the Suwon City Urban Safety Integrated Center and said, "Gyeonggi Province sincerely did its best for the victims, families, and injured of the 10.29 Tragedy, but I have no words on how to fill the void left by them," emphasizing, "What we must do is to thoroughly prevent such tragedies from happening again, and if they do occur, which should never happen, to promptly respond and develop the capability to quickly manage the situation."
Earlier, Governor Kim's first schedule of the day was a visit to the Maesan Police Substation of Suwon Seobu Police Station.
At Maesan Substation, Governor Kim expressed concern, saying, "I worry that the morale of frontline police officers might decline due to the 10.29 Tragedy," and encouraged them, "I believe the public's trust and support for the police are strong. Please stay encouraged."
Meanwhile, in line with the implementation of the autonomous police system this year, Gyeonggi Province has started providing welfare points to improve the treatment of autonomous police officers. In this process, the province expanded the welfare points payment target not only to police officers in charge of autonomous police affairs but also to police officers at substations and police boxes who belong to the national police but perform practical autonomous police duties such as crime prevention, patrol, and dispatch. As a result, 10,448 substation and police box officers in the province will receive welfare point benefits. The province plans to continue the welfare points payment project for substation and police box officers next year as well.
