[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] Psychiatrist Dr. Oh Eun-young expressed the view that when adolescents wear makeup, their satisfaction with their appearance increases, which can lead to improved academic performance.

On the 13th, Dr. Oh Eun-young uploaded a video titled "Why Adolescents' Grades Improve When They Wear Makeup [Oh Eun-young's Bucket List]" on her YouTube channel 'Oh Eun-young's Bucket List.' In the video, she discussed the psychology related to makeup with makeup artist Director Jung Saem-mool.

Dr. Oh analyzed the psychology behind adolescents wearing makeup, saying, "People are beautiful as human beings no matter their appearance, but the reason for wearing makeup is not so much to look pretty as it is to show that they are doing their best."

Regarding the question about "people who wear makeup even when going to nearby places," she said, "Humans are social animals, so there is value in how others perceive me. When women hear 'You look good today' after wearing makeup, they touch up their cushion compact once before going out according to that standard."

Dr. Oh also stated that children should not be scolded for wearing makeup but should be given advice and helped to accept it themselves. She explained, "Sometimes they insist on wearing clothes that don't fit the season or do strange makeup. It's not dangerous or bad behavior. In those cases, giving a little advice and saying 'If you really think so,' and letting them experience it leads to feedback from peers. Children accept that better."

In particular, when asked, "There is research showing that adolescents' academic performance improves when their satisfaction with their appearance increases after makeup," Dr. Oh responded, "I believe there is evidence." She explained, "When self-satisfaction builds up in how I view myself, I feel pride. When adolescents apply tone-up cream or tint and feel their complexion brightens, their self-satisfaction rises." She added, "People who go through this process are likely to work hard in other areas as well. Taking care to wear makeup requires diligence."
