Cultural Heritage Administration and Gochang County 'Mujanggipoji' Historic Site Commemoration Event

"Hope to Become an Opportunity to Boost Local Residents' Pride"

The Cultural Heritage Administration and Gochang County will hold a commemorative event on the 14th to mark the designation of 'Gochang Mujang Gipoji' as a historic site. Gochang Mujang Gipoji is the gathering place where the proclamation of the Donghak Peasant Revolution was declared. Recognized as the starting point for eradicating corruption in the feudal society and protecting the nation's sovereignty, it was designated as a historic site last May. Mujang (茂長) is a place name from the Joseon Dynasty.

The commemorative event will proceed in the following order: a traditional Korean music performance by the Gochang National Music Troupe, a lecture by Professor Kim Yang-sik from Cheongju University, a report on the designation process and preservation and utilization plans by Gochang County, the presentation of the certificate for designation as a national cultural heritage management organization, and commendations for contributors. The Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "We hope this will serve as an opportunity to boost the pride of local residents and invigorate the local community."
