Weekly Daily Average New Cases Rise to 50,000s

[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] As the winter resurgence of COVID-19 has fully begun, 48,000 new confirmed cases were reported on the 13th. This is the highest number of confirmed cases on a Sunday in 10 weeks.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, 48,465 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 26,194,229.
The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 5,863 from the previous day's 54,328, but it is 11,800 more than the 36,665 cases reported last Sunday, the 6th. Compared to two weeks ago on the 30th of last month, when there were 34,491 cases, it increased by nearly 14,000, showing a clear upward trend.
The number of new confirmed cases is the highest for a Sunday announcement in 10 weeks since September 4, when 72,112 cases were reported.
The weekly average daily confirmed cases have also risen to the 50,000 range. From the 7th to this day, the daily new confirmed cases were 18,665 → 62,260 → 62,468 → 55,357 → 54,519 → 54,328 → 48,465, with a daily average of 50,866 cases.
Among the new confirmed cases on this day, 53 were imported cases, 5 fewer than the previous day (58). Domestic community transmission cases were 48,412.
The number of confirmed cases by region (including imported cases) is as follows: Gyeonggi 13,268, Seoul 9,263, Incheon 2,849, Gyeongbuk 2,734, Busan 2,365, Gyeongnam 2,321, Daegu 2,330, Chungnam 2,060, Gangwon 1,570, Chungbuk 1,684, Daejeon 1,632, Jeonbuk 1,768, Jeonnam 1,320, Gwangju 1,520, Ulsan 964, Sejong 445, Jeju 327, Quarantine 45.
The number of severe and critical patients currently hospitalized is 396, an increase of 25 from the previous day (371), approaching 400.
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 reported the previous day was 48, 2 more than the day before (46). The cumulative death toll is 29,665, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
