[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] A warm story has been shared about a couple who got married last fall and donated 7 tons of rice wreaths to neighbors in need.

The protagonists of this beautiful and heartwarming story are the couple Gil Wonju and Lee Minjae.

The couple, Gil Wonju and Lee Minjae, learned about the hardships faced by vulnerable groups due to the economic crisis through the media and sought various ways to help. They decided to receive rice wreaths instead of wedding congratulatory money and donate them to those in need.

They delivered 7 tons of rice wreaths (worth approximately 19 million KRW) on the 10th through the Jung-gu Citizens Solidarity in Seoul to vulnerable groups in the area.

In May of last year, Lee Jeong-ae, the mother of Gil Wonju, who is actively working as a folk painting artist, donated 56,000 protective masks (worth approximately 15 million KRW) to welfare centers and neighborhood community centers in Jung-gu with the proceeds from her exhibition, asking for them to be given to those in need.

The spirit of sharing and giving has been passed down from one generation to the next.

Gil Wonju said, “I believe no one can stand alone in this world. I also grew up receiving help from my family and those around me, and I learned from my parents’ teachings that giving back to society as much as the love you receive is natural and right. I will continue to reflect on my role in society and live as a more mature adult by giving and sharing.”

Upon hearing about this donation, Park Jangseon, chairman of Today Art, and Kim Deokwon, CEO of Jadam Chicken Yaksu Branch, also joined in this beautiful act of sharing.

Chairman Park Jangseon has been steadily donating in various ways, including delivering Korean beef sets to low-income families in the area, and is also a member of the Honor Society, a high-donor group of the Community Chest of Korea.

At Jadam Chicken Yaksu Branch, free chicken is provided to local senior centers and elderly people who collect recyclables, serving as a role model in the community.

At the delivery ceremony held on the 10th, Gil Wonju declined to attend due to the modesty of the donation, so his father, Gil Giyeong, chairman of the Jung-gu Council in Seoul, and Kim Deokwon, CEO of Jadam Chicken Yaksu Branch, attended instead.

The Jung-gu Citizens Solidarity plans to distribute the donated 7 tons of rice to vulnerable groups in the area in the future.
