[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, attended the ‘13th Asia Future Forum’ held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 10th, where she presented excellent cases of public-private governance in Eunpyeong related to sustainable development.

At the forum, under the theme ‘An Era of Division and Exclusion: Seeking New Trust,’ scholars and journalists from around the world discussed common global challenges in addressing polarization issues and explored the path forward for Korean society.

Kim Mi-kyung, who serves as the Chairperson of the National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council, spoke as a speaker in Session 1 titled ‘Building Trust-Based Local Government and Civil Society for Sustainable Development: Public-Private Cooperation and Social Economy,’ presenting on ‘Eunpyeong District’s Public-Private Governance Policies and Excellent Cases of Social Economy.’

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, attended the opening ceremony of the distinguished ecological learning center ‘Eco Space Yeonui’ at Yeonui Park (1320-9 Sinjeong 3-dong) on the morning of the 11th.

‘Eco Space Yeonui,’ a two-story building with a total floor area of 700㎡, was created by horizontally expanding and remodeling the existing Yeonui Ecological Learning Center to secure additional educational space and improve aging facilities.

The building applies the concept of ‘biophilic design’ that harmonizes with nature, featuring key spaces such as a rooftop garden, Yeonui Gallery, collector’s research room, and greenhouse.

Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “The newly expanded Eco Space Yeonui will serve as a hub for an ecological city that enjoys healing and practices ecological education,” and added, “We hope many residents will take interest and visit.”

Gwangjin District (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) carried out volunteer activities for making kimchi for the underprivileged in cooperation with various social organizations.

First, the ‘Love Kimchi Making’ event organized by the Gwangjin District Saemaul Women’s Association (President Jeon Tae-yeon) was held from the 8th to the 9th.

About 200 people, including Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, members of the Saemaul Women’s Association, and volunteers, participated over two days, making kimchi together at the Gwangjin Saemaul Hall and the courtyard of Neungdong Pavilion.

Wearing aprons and sanitary hats, Mayor Kim Kyung-ho put on rubber gloves and said, “Thank you for participating in kimchi making to create a happy Gwangjin with neighbors,” adding, “I hope everyone has a warm year-end.”

The kimchi made from 2,600 heads of napa cabbage and 1,000 radishes amounted to a total of 900 boxes, of which 729 boxes were delivered to low-income households, elderly living alone, single-parent and multicultural families, and 171 boxes to welfare facilities such as district senior centers, local children’s centers, and disabled organizations.

Next, from the 10th to the 11th, the ‘Kimchi Making for Needy Neighbors’ event was held, organized by the Gwangjin District Council for the Promotion of Right Living (President Choi Doo-ho).

The kimchi making took place in the square in front of the fountain at the Gwangjin District Facilities Management Corporation, attended by about 90 people including the executive committee and branch committee members.

They made about 1,000 heads of kimchi for 210 needy households. Each community center received the kimchi and plans to distribute it to 14 needy households selected by each district.

A member of the Gwangjin District Council for the Promotion of Right Living who participated in the volunteer work said, “Fortunately, the weather was warm, so we made kimchi more pleasantly with the members,” adding, “We made it with sincerity, so I hope it tastes good.”
