SK Hynix-led 'Eco-friendly Semiconductor' Alliance Announces Renewable Energy Roadmap

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The 'Eco Alliance,' an eco-friendly coalition of 44 semiconductor companies led by SK Hynix, declared on the 11th that it will contribute to carbon neutrality by using renewable energy.

Seventeen member companies, including SK Siltron, SKC, SK Specialty, SK Materials, Wonik Materials, Wonik IPS, and PNS Logistics, stated in the declaration, "Based on a strong network among member companies, we aim to proactively respond to the global trend of carbon neutrality and renewable energy use," adding, "The 17 companies issuing this declaration will establish renewable energy generation plans starting next year and gradually expand the use of renewable energy."

The Eco Alliance plans to implement practical measures tailored to each member company to achieve goals in ▲renewable energy use and energy reduction ▲greenhouse gas reduction ▲waste reduction.

To ensure the successful achievement of these plans, the Eco Alliance intends to provide financial support through ▲loan assistance via ESG fund operations ▲support for national projects such as the 'Green Premium Renewable Energy Installation Support Project.' The Green Premium refers to a donation-type fee payment system where businesses wishing to receive certification after consuming renewable energy electricity voluntarily agree to pay an additional premium on top of their existing electricity bills.

Park Cheol-beom, Vice President in charge of SV (Social Value) promotion at SK Hynix, which manages the Eco Alliance, said, "The carbon neutrality goals of global countries and companies are an unstoppable major trend," adding, "We will actively support member companies that jointly declare renewable energy use to effectively implement practical measures."

The Eco Alliance is a coalition of partners launched by SK Hynix in 2019 to address semiconductor environmental issues. It currently has 44 member companies.

Additionally, SK Hynix joined the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Supply Chain Program this year to manage greenhouse gas emissions in its supply chain. It is supporting Eco Alliance member companies and top-emitting partners in raw material procurement to implement the CDP Supply Chain Program together.
