CNN·NYT "Trump Shouted at Everyone Over Disappointing Results," Reports
Trump Responds, "Fake News Media Are Crazy and Completely Out of Control"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized media reports claiming that he was angry not only with his aides but also with his wife Melania Trump after the disappointing results of the midterm elections held on the 8th as "fake news."
On the 10th (local time), Trump posted on his social media platform 'Truth Social' mentioning Melania, saying, "I want to apologize for the fake news and fictional stories," and added, "This fake news was poured out to you by reporters and media outlets who know it is not true."
Earlier, CNN and The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 9th that Trump expressed great anger to those around him as the Republican Party struggled unexpectedly in the midterm elections. CNN cited a close aide of former President Trump, stating, "After the disappointing results for the Republican Party in the U.S. midterm elections held the previous day, former President Trump yelled at everyone."
Maggie Haberman, a New York Times reporter who has covered Trump for a long time, tweeted on the same day, "Former President Trump is 'angry' about the disappointing nationwide performance of the Republican Party this morning," adding, "He is especially blaming those who advised supporting Mehmet Oz in the Pennsylvania Senate race, including his wife Melania."
In response to these reports, former President Trump said, "The fake news media is crazy and completely out of control," and "I hope the public realizes how corrupt and distorted they are. They make up stories and shove them down your throat."
Meanwhile, the U.S. midterm elections, held halfway through a president's term, strongly serve as a judgment on the administration. Especially this midterm election was held amid the worst inflation in over 40 years, raising economic responsibility issues against President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, leading to forecasts of a Republican landslide victory. However, with Trump's emergence, the anti-Trump forces united, resulting in the Republican Party performing worse than expected.
As the landslide victory was thwarted, a "Trump responsibility theory" has been raised within the Republican Party, suggesting that Trump's bid for re-election may not be smooth. Trump had planned to officially announce his 2024 presidential run on the 15th, expecting a major victory for the Republican Party in the final stages of the election, but Florida Governor Ron DeSantis surged as the next leading candidate within the Republican Party after his overwhelming re-election win.
